distant replay; a novel by chad gramling

"Distant Replay" is a novel I wrote. I am currently in the final stages of editing and hope to obtain the services of an agent in the near future for the purposes of publication (if you are an interested agent, please contact me).

About Distant Replay...

What if sports heroes from yesterday started taking the field against the athletes of today?

What if they already were?

Distant Replay is a literary novel that addresses this not-so-far fetched idea while compelling readers to consider the ideals of belief, identity, idolatry and life in general.

In the story, Stuart Janetty tires of the controlling environment at Riptide Sports Management, Inc. He confronts the ferocious Mr. Charles Riptide and personally tenders his resignation. However, when he walks out the door, he is jobless, homeless and on the verge of losing his credibility and career at the hands of Riptide’s public relations machine.

Unable to sign any clients while trying to start his own firm, Janetty visits a dimly lit pub and uncomprehendingly hands over his life savings to a shady man; known to him only as “Milton.” After doing so, he draws a Hall of Fame quarterback from a stack of old pro football trading cards and informed that it is his new client.

This meeting initiates a ride of success and fame. However, before he knows it, Janetty is the central participant of a secret that could be considered both conspiracy and undying affection. Ultimately, Janetty must choose between saving his career and preventing the world from becoming one massive, unlegislated designer society. No matter which path he chooses, it will have lasting implications on his and his family’s life forever.

Throughout the story, you'll see heroes rise, and more importantly, you'll see the fall. Ultimately, you will question what it means to be a hero and how heroes become known as heroic. You may even conclude, there are no heroes at all.
