Edgar Allan Poe : Essays and Reviews : Theory of Poetry / Reviews of British and Continental Authors / Reviews of American Authors and American Literature / Magazines and Criticism / The Literary & Social Scene / Articles and Marginalia (Library of America)

What I always admired about Edgar Allen Poe is his ability to write in various forms; i.e. poetry, essay, short story, etc. I think that may be one of the reasons I like to write various formats.

I have done the poetry thing and and have completed a novel manuscript. I am about to publish an eBooklet that is approximately 400 words (if I remember correctly). One format I have not tackled thus far is short stories. However, that is about to change.

I recently came up with a very compelling story concept that I think will lend well to the short format that I can use to enter in contests and such. Perhaps Mr. Poe is still able to inspire me despite not having read much of his works in about seven or eight years.

Give his versatility, I wonder what Edgar Allen Poe would blog about if he were alive today?

I would hope so… He was brilliant. It’s trendy to like, but the Raven is such an incredible poem. I know, he had masses of other great stuff, but when I read The Raven it just seems so perfect.

In Junior High, Edgar A Poe was my favorite author. I read everything I could find and he inspired me to write short stories. My english teacher talked me into sending some of them to a short story bi-weekly publication, which I did for a couple of summers. It was really fun to see someone actually was willing to pay for something I wrote!
