This is the first of what will probably be many entries as part of my association with .

Loki: You Can Get There From Here.

I have been trying out this new service called . Loki, a new and free application from , uses WiFi access points near you to instantly triangulate your location within 20 meters. It doesn’t just show you a “you are here” spot on the map. Based on your location, you can use the Loki toolbar to get relevant Web content, like local news, weather, events, dining and shopping to make searching and navigating a lot easier and faster. You can even let friends know exactly where you are and give them driving directions by e-mail. The next time you need to figure out where you are or where you’re going (or both), all you have to do is click a button on your Loki toolbar. In essence, Loki makes your Web experience more relevant and timely by factoring in the most important contextual variable: where you are right NOW.

At this point, I have only integrated the toolbar with Mozilla FireFox, but there have been no issues to speak of. Probably one of the best features is the ability to quickly and easily look up nearby wifi hotspots. I had no idea there were so many near me. I am looking forward to using it more when I am traveling for work in April and when I will be hitting the many baseball parks this summer.

Anyone else use Loki yet? What do you think so far?

I love the irony, Loki, as in the Norse god of chaos and destruction, equivalent to Satan in the Christian myth.

Ha! I thought the same thing at first, but I guess I am less in tuned to some of that stuff anymore. I have seen some even dumber things — like DISH Network moving the Christian Music SERIUS station to channel number 6066. Talk about silly.
