bruceD posted the following comments on FromTheMorning with regard to a post titled “Devil Music” - but I think it applies to pretty much anything in life, so I am making it my quote of the day:
I find it amazing that we are so afraid to live in the freedom the Cross brought! Christ came to set the world free from fear, doubt, guilt, and shame. He freely gives us His righteousness before God, and loves us unconditionally. Yet, we look right past the cross and focus on our “religion”. We worry about “getting it right” and “believing correctly”. We slap Christ in the face with our religous mindsets. He brought freedom, yet we push it aside and cling to our rules, formulas, rituals, and ceremonies. We think we can force Father’s face to us, not even suspecting that He has already turned His face to us, and is smiling at what He sees. We squander His grace by insisting that it’s “our performance” that pleases Him. His desire is to draw us to Himself, but we persist in striving to draw Him to us! “Look at us, God. Look at how hard we are trying to please you! Surely, we have won your favor! Bless us, God! We deserve it!”
