Hmmm . . . .
How ironic, when I give fair warning to radio stations, the Journal Gazette posts this article about the so-called “mix” of music in the area. And then, as I am auditioning stations, I started to get a sense that it’s time for a change in the Summit City Radio group of stations (they seem to shake things up every 4 or 5 years just for giggles).
Turns out, I was right.
Years ago, I posted an yougooglie (Zoolander reference) to Rock104 on my old blog (that I have since closed down, so no link is available). It was the last independently owned station in the area at the time and I really was sad to see a true ROCK station go by the wayside.
Summit City Radio purchased the station and reformatted it to suck-ass music and I have listened to it rarely ever since. So, back to my suspicions . . .
On Monday morning of this week, I heard DJ JJ make reference to moving over to Rock104 in a little while. Thinking back to my wondering how strange it was that Hammer left their morning show and station not long ago, the wheels were in motion.
Yesterday, I read a bit in my AUBURN newspaper that x102.3 was being sold to an entity that is going to reformat the station to SPANISH!!! (right now, I am thinking twice about what I was going to write, and have decided to delete the two sentences that would have followed because that is not the focus of this post – maybe it will be a new post later).
Investigating further, I hit the Summit City Radio Group webpage this morning. Shown, are the logos with links to all 6 of their stations. After clicking on each, I find that three of them (102.9, 102.3 and 94.1) auto-forward to, you guessed it . . . www.rock104radio.com! Looks like a station is being risen from the dead and sucking up two others in its wake.
Intrigued, I looked further. AM1250 the River still goes to its own website, and Wild 96.3 still goes to its own. But 103.9 auto-forwards to Wild 96.3! Could it be that Summit City Radio is consolidating six stations into three? It looks that way. A click of the PRESS ROOM link on the page produces nothing but a bunch of white space, so there is no way to tell for sure.
Not sure that it makes one bit of difference, but I found it interesting. It looks like Rock104 will be rocking the Summit City airwaves again real soon – so that will be a good thing. I do hope, however, that they don’t bring back all the jocks who intentionally talk really slow to make it sound like they are a bunch of stoned burnouts in a little DJ booth a la the 1970’s. Terribly annoying.
Welcome back Rock104!
