So, we have determined and accepted responsibility for the garden. It will teach us patience and the need to care for our “family” of veggies and flowers. We also learned that before we plant, we must establish the soil as a firm foundation for growth. But those are not all the lessons.
Whenever we pick from the garden, it will be Daphne’s chore. She will pluck the veggi’s, cut the flowers and present them to her mother or whomever we give our extra produce to. When she does, we’ll make a big deal about it. We won’t just say “thank you” and go on with our lives. We’ll tell Daphne that she did an excellent job in caring for the fruits and flowers and that she is an excellent gardener. Hopefully, that will instill pride and a strong sense of self esteem. There are so many tools that the devil utilizes to communicate the alternative to kids that if a simple thing like gardening can provide positive messages, I’ll feel ashamed not to do so.
