It’s one thing to say you are going to try and be different. It’s another to actually do it.
As you can tell by my recent postings on meditations & visions, the idea of personal development is one I have though a lot about. I actually started this process last year when I decided to begin reading the Bible straight through. I started it because I was intrigued by the challenge of trying to Read The Bible in 90 Days.
I started on January 1, 2006. But the middle of February, I was still on pace. They I started to neglect my daily readings. When my wife and I started our Crown Financial Ministries study at church, we stopped the daily readings all together. It wasn’t until November that I picked them up again. On December 20th, I read the final words of Revelations. Mission accomplished (sort of).
Reflecting on the experience, I can now see the strengths and weaknesses of that program. Sure, my goals was to read the entire Bible this year (I was not so caught up in doing it in 90 days). That is the strength. I learned a lot about God’s word and truly thing it helped me grow spiritually.
However, it was very easy to not do it on a daily basis. What if I had finished it in 90 days? What about the other 275? It’s clear to me that I will need to refine my personal development objectives for 2007 (yes, I anticipate starting an annual project every year).
I have already made my plans for 2007 and, believe it or not, they are directly related to the vision I shared with you many days ago. What excites me even more is that I am preparing in such a way that anyone can follow my progress (in other words, hold me accountable) and they can even participate (that means you too).
I’ll share the details with you tomorrow after I have a few things formalized.
