I had my first book signing for Baseball in Fort Wayne at Barnes & Noble today. Overall, it went very well and the folks a B & N were very gracious hosts. I cannot thank them enough. I spoke with so many people who were either fans of the game or relatives of fans who were buying the book as a gift. I hope I was able to meet there expectations and I am looking forward to sharing stories and meeting more folks at my next signings at Borders and MJ’s Bookmark.
But for me, the highlight was meeting Isabel “Lefty” Alvarez. She was one of six Cuban players who came to the U.S in 1949. She joined the Fort Wayne Daisies in 1951 and also played with the team through 1952. After splitting the 1953 season between the Lassies and Chicks, she returned for the 1954 campaign -which was the last of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL).
Without a doubt, it was a great joy for me to meet Ms. Alvarez. She was even kind enough to sign some books for customers who asked. It truly was humbling for me to witness.

Photo was taken by my wonderful wife, Jenny. (Trivia Tidbit: Isabel Alvarez appears in the movie “A League of Their Own” - as do several players from the league that inspired the movie.)

Nice book. Who is ur lit. agent?
Thansk TMJ and Tiana.
Tiana - No lit agent (at the moment at least). This is a non-fiction title that I worked directly with Arcadia Publishing on. However, I am looking for an agent for my fiction works (shopping one completed novel and at least two to-be-completed noevels at the moment). If you have anyone who may be interested in working with me, please let me know. Thanks.
glad it went well, how cool to have your own book signing!
