Random Lauds is a new category over here at WordUp. From time to time, I come across posts on other blogs that make me stop. At first, I am jealous that I don’t come up with it. But then I admit the genius of the other blogger. Random Lauds is my way of calling attention to such posts . . . with commentary by yours truly of course.
The first Random Laud goes to Rodney Olsen over at The Journey for his post called Mercy Street. Personally, I am so sick of the Paris Hilton prison saga that I have generally avoided it. Whenever I see or hear people drafting jokes at her expense, I feel shame for laughing because I really have no real idea how much of her “issues” are orchestrated and how much of it is a true demonstration of pain and struggle. (For the record, I often feel the same when Brittney Spears is the punch line too). But Rodney does a much better job of explaining such thoughts than I ever could.
The older I get the more I see the beauty of mercy. When my natural reaction is to say, “She’s a spoiled little rich kid who deserves all she gets”, mercy says she’s a fractured person, just like me who needs healing and restoration. She might not realise [sic] that she needs that healing and restoration but that shouldn’t change my attitude toward her. [Mercy Street by Rodney Olsen].
The second Random Laud goes to Aaron Smith over at Cultural Savage. Aaron has a post called $9.00 drink and a $8.00 hot dog that speaks volumes to me. It’s a YouTube Video that will really make you think. Rather than provide a synopsis, I encourage you to check it out. I have posted it below.

Horaayy..there are 2 comment(s) for me so far ;)
Thanks for the link. It’s a real encouragement to me.
Great video too.
(PS: The English/Australian spelling of realise has an ’s’ where the American spelling has a ‘z’.)
ha. I know Rodney. Force of habit from my schooling to note anywhere that doesn’t look right. Having been isolated in my homeland has left me a bit uncultured I guess. In any regard, it really was a great post. Thanks for contributing to my attempt at gaining wisdom.
