I happened upon a Winston Churchill quote today:

Writing a book is an adventure. To begin with, it is a toy and an amusement; then it becomes a mistress, and then it becomes a master, and then a tyrant. The last phase is that just as you are about to be reconciled to your servitude, you kill the monster, and fling him out to the public.

Oddly enough, just yesterday I finished another “affair” with Distant Replay and I am hoping to kill that monster by firing her off to the public. It took less than 24 hours to get my first rejection following our break-up.

But I still hope to shake this beast so she might be shared with the world. Pray that I will fare better with future queries to other agents and/or publishers.

I’ve have a box, and inbox, full of rejections from literary agents. Needless to say, some that accepted sample chapters or full manuscripts did provide very useful criticism in some instances.

My only advice would be to keep track of those who take the time to provide critical insight into your work. I found that they will be very open to receiving any new manuscript that you may complete in the future.

Good luck.

Derek-
Always nice to read your comments. I appreciate the support and encouragement you’ve offered in recent years and you would not believe how much of a lift your kind words at our last class reunion provided.

Keep me updated on your publishing pursuits. It’ll happen!
