My buddy Mat has been blogging about his simple question to the major party candidates. He wrote an email to all the front-runners in the 2008 Presidential race asking a simple question: What is your stance on the outsourcing of American IT jobs?
He receive two responses; One from Barrack Obama’s camp and another from John Edwards’s camp. Both were form letters that did not address the question. Edwards had the audacity to close by reminding Mat that he is welcome to contribute a suggested $250 to the campaign. How nice?
Me, being the ultimate third party-supporting disenfranchised citizen that I am, I had to write to a Libertarian candidate. I chose Daniel Imperato because he was the one I am most familiar with.
I received an automated response minutes later:
Dear Chad Gramling,
Thank you for your inquiry to the Imperato for President Campaign Committee. Your comments are important to us. Due to the high volume of questions we receive, it may take us time to answer you directly. We appreciate your patience and encourage you to keep checking our website for frequent updates.

I thought that was okay. I can’t expect a candidate for President of the United States of America to just sit around waiting to respond to e-mails - even if it was a third party candidate and you would be “wasting your vote” if you voted for him [I hope your sarcasm detectors were tuned for that].
But less than two hours after that automated response, I got the following:
Hello Chad. Thanks for asking about the outsourcing issue. I do not think the government should be involved in telling companies how to run their business. Outsourcing does occur and perhaps at an alarming rate. So if you have any ideas on the subject I would like to hear about them. That is the most interesting part of being a candidate; we get to hear what American voters think.
Sincerely,
Daniel Imperato
It my not be the response Mat was looking for, but I do think it says a lot that the candidate actually responded and did so in an ultra timely fashion. Seems to me that a vote for a third party candidate may be a “wasted vote” but at least I’m not wasting my time thinking that the gruesome twosome are going to change a dang thing.
Thanks for keeping it real Mr. Imperato.

Horaayy..there are 5 comment(s) for me so far ;)
Most people think that Imperato is crazy for running for president. I think he’s really serious, and he seems to be in the mold of a Ross Perot, someone who has made their money in the business world and can self-financie their campaign. If we the bloggers and the online community ever got behind this guy, we could really make a real impact on this election. Something to think about.
I like Imperato. I think he’s a good choice for 2008.
Chad, you should try writing to Ron Paul. He considers himself a Libertarian even though he is running as a Republican.
Thanks for the suggestion, but I am not sure I really care to see it go beyond this. I shudder to think that someone might consider my blog a political blog. Then I would have to hate my own blog
gotcha. maybe the same guy that ripped rupert for talking politics will rip you!
