Convince Me to Vote for Obama or McCain!

If you’ve read other posts on this blog, you may think I am voting for Obama. But here’s the reality: I don’t know who I am voting for. I want you to help me decide by convincing ME why I should vote for one versus the other.

Please comment below to persuade ME. I don’t want to know who you are voting for and I don’t want to know about hearsay. I don’t want to read any slander and I don’t want to read anything that suggests I must vote with a particular party.

I want you to pick ONE ARGUMENT for a particular candidate and tell ME why I should vote for that person in a matter of 3-5 sentences. Consider it your elevator pitch for the candidate.

In order to help you, here is a little about me and my voting preferences/attributes. These are MY attributes and I’m not posting them for you to argue about them. I’m posting them so you can convince ME who to vote for:

  • I pledge no allegiance to any one party
  • I am a Christian (of reformed faith)
  • Government is too large and many functions are to provide “busywork” jobs
  • There should be no taxes on property
  • I am married and have children
  • Government should have no authority to prohibit lawful actions unto businesses (i.e. they should have not authority to say business must go non-smoking when smoking is legal)
  • Seatbelt laws for adults are stupid – If a person wants to be an idiot and it only endangers themselves, let them be an idiot. Find another way to make money rather than issuing seat belt tickets.
  • I think our country has a serious lack of innovative ambition. I want a President who will encourage us to think and act as if there were no box (not “think outside of the box”)
  • The cost of health care in this country is going to be a substantial problem within the next decade and many people will be going to other countries to undergo common procedures because it is cheaper there (even with the cost of travel)
  • Our public schools have failed and continually do so
  • Bottled water is a bigger cause of our oil dependency than automobiles.
  • I took one of those silly Internet quizes and it tells me that the candidate who best meets my ideals is Chuck Baldwin of the Constitution Party at 78.57% followed by Bob Barr of the Libertarian Party at 54.76% and then John McCain at an even 50%. Obama is next at 47.62%. I guess those last two kinds explain why I am so conflicted, eh? FYI, Ralph Nader (Independant at 38.10%) and Cynthia McKinney (Green at 23.81%) round out the bottom of the barrel. I refuse to link to McKinney b/c when I tried to go to her website, it cripples my browser and I have to close everything down. I have no use for a candidate like that. If she can cripple a browser, just imagine what her agenda woudl do for our country!!!

Alright. Let me have it!

  1. Wow, some of our views are very similar.

I have voted 3rd party for many years now. I am tired of only having to choose between two polar opposite ends of the spectrum. I truly believe that most of this country has it’s views anchored somewhere in the middle, yet it’s the noisy extremists that get all the attention.

    I took the quiz you linked to, and scored 86% - Baldwin/Constitution, 76% - Barr/Libertarian, 64% - McCain/Republican, 50% - Obama/Democrat, 43% - Nader/Independent and 29% - McKinney/Green

I have recently talked about Constitution/Libertarian parties ON MY BLOG (link)

I also tell people to take The World’s Smallest Political Quiz. That may help you understand where you stand as well.

I am disappointed with the lower percentage of votes the third party candidates get. I think it’s time that the MAJORITY of this country (who I believe live somewhere between the extreme Democrat and extreme Republican views) send a message. A message from somewhere in the middle.

Ultimately, this vote is yours. You should cast your vote for the candidate that you think will be the best choice for this country as a whole.

Best of luck to you Chad Gramling!

  2. Thanks for commenting FOF. Funny thing, I never even considered the Constitution Party until I took that quiz. I’ve always sided mostly with the LP, but I will never become one to “affiliate” with any one party. This time around, I have heard basically nothing fromt he LP. And, now tha ti think about it, I only knew about Badnarick (sp?) last time around b/c I sought it out. A lot of people accuse the media of bias of one major party candidate over the other, but the real bias is towards major parties in general. They give very little attention to third party candidates. And before anyone tries to counter with the “nobody cares about third party candidates so that is why they don’t talk abou thtem” argument, I say BS! Many people care about third party choices. Who’s next?
